The Ukiah Library

The Ukiah Branch Library invites the community to its Art Walk opening on Friday, April 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring an acrylic on canvas exhibition by local artist Charles Montgomery.

Montgomery describes himself as an art lover turned art maker. His work includes colorful, stylized portraits of people and animals, often with a touch of humor. He draws inspiration from artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe. His love of music, especially jazz, is a recurring theme throughout his work. He says the reward of making art is the sense of freedom and fun it brings.

The April 3 event will include live harp music by Suni Robin. Guests can also take part in an all-ages tiny canvas craft and browse a book sale hosted by the Ukiah Valley Friends of the Library.

The exhibition runs through April 30 and is free and open to the public. Ample parking is available at Standley and Main streets.

Luxe Places Int’l Realty

Join Luxe for Art Walk as they host an art exhibition for fiber artist, Jan Cannon. Light refreshments will be served.

Artist Bio: Jan Cannon is a fiber artist whose work has ranged from silk hangings to geodesic dome homes, dog saddlebags to antique textile restoration. Her passion for creating with cloth and natural elements began in childhood growing up in Jamaica’s vibrant climate. Working in the industrial sewing industry for many years provided Jan an income while also developing skills in upholstery, large-scale design, and fabric markets.

Painting with acrylics and making with mixed media came after children left home. She started on thrift-store linens, and as brushes and paint became a meditation and source of joy, her paintings have continued to evolve.

With a deep connection to California and family roots here, returning to live in Ukiah is giving Jan a grounded sense of place and home. Thanks to Miriam Carrero and Luxe Places, she is realizing her dream and is currently turning an old garage into a maker space.

W Real Estate

Join First Friday Art Walk at W Real Estate for an evening of snacks, drinks and art in downtown Ukiah.

Featured artist Jessica Hernandez presents work that explores space, memory and perception. Known for her detailed, atmospheric approach, Hernandez creates scenes that feel familiar but slightly out of reach. Her work often draws from real environments, then shifts them through color, light and structure to create something new. Working between painting and hand-built maquettes, she builds immersive spaces that sit between fiction and memory.

Hernandez’s work reflects her interest in architecture and place, shaped in part by her travels and study of varied landscapes. Interiors and exterior scenes both play a role in her process, often blending into one another.

Visitors are invited to stop by, experience the work and enjoy a relaxed Art Walk setting.
