Saturday, June 20 at 3 PM

Join Ukiah Branch Library staff as we host poetry events in-person on the third Saturdays of each month at 3 p.m. This free event is open to both teens and adults. All are invited to share poems in any form or style or just listen to others. On June 20 we welcome Shawna Swetech!

Shawna L. Swetech — a retired hospital medical/surgical nurse, is a poet, visual artist, and integrative wellness practitioner. Originally from Southern California, Swetech has lived in west Sonoma County for more than 40 years. She and husband Jay, cohabit in Forestville with a dog, one cat, and seven laying hens. Her poems and art, ranging from the personal to the political, the body to the body politic, draws inspiration from the deep wells of human nature and the natural world. Her poetry appears in Rattle, The Healing Muse, Ars Medica, Pulse, and the American Journal of Nursing, among other journals and anthologies. She is the author of a recently released poetry collection based on her 35-year nursing career, entitled “Standing in Their Fire: Poems from a Hospital Nurse.” Swetech believes poetry and art are important healing medicines for the ills of our modern world.
