with Spencer Brewer & Esther Siegel
Friday, July 12 from 2 to 3:30PM

On Friday, July 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m., local artists Spencer Brewer and Esther Siegel will discuss “Lost and Found: Assemblage Artists of Northern California,” their book of “extraordinary sculptures crafted by eight Northern California assemblage artists.” They will also facilitate a hands-on workshop for attendees to create assemblage art in groups using materials provided by Brewer and Siegel.

Siegel is a later in life artist who emerged from working with making paper in the form of scrapbooking, paper, and card making. Once she discovered she could draw and paint with objects, she was hooked. What Siegel lacked in art education, she made up with enthusiasm and courage. Her need for harmony, love of horses, and interest in psychotherapy are some of her themes and motivators. As a glass-half-full person, you will often see whimsy, optimism, and lightness in her art.

Brewer is a storyteller, crafting stories either through his musical compositions or assemblage art sculptures. They all take us on a journey. He creates ‘High Whimsy’ – fantastical pieces of sculptures out of vintage or unusual objects inspiring viewers with a sense of delight, surprise, and wonder. In many of Brewer’s themed works, he incorporates the various inner parts from pianos, mechanical objects, and instruments that few ever get to see.

This free event is open to all ages. Please contact the Ukiah Branch Library at 707-463-4490 or [email protected] for more information.
